The BMA Laboratory conducted its first (CME) Quality Assurance workshop on Saturday, July 14th, 2007. The topic of discussion was “Phlebotomist—The Public Relations Persons”. The stated objective is “To continue to develop and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS) of the BMA Laboratory in an effort to deliver the highest quality service possible to our clients and physicians.”
The workshop involved team building exercises, fostering improved inter-personal relations between laboratory personnel. There was review and discussion of literature concerning meeting and greeting a client before executing the technical aspects of phlebotomy. This is to have the client feel welcome and want to choose our facility on another occasion— after all, we are in the service industry! Body language, appearance and presentation were other aspects of the discussion. A review of the phlebotomy process was done, highlighting the critical aspects like, identification, preparation, specimen collection and handling. This was followed by a role-play, “phlebotomy situation’ after which criticizisms and comments were given. The session wrapped up with written feedback from participants. The session was attended by all laboratory personnel and facilitated by Mr. Jamie Mckoy, the Quality Assurance Officer for BMA lab. |

Hi Dr. Gough,
My mom is doing okay but is not out of the woods just yet. Her doctors are still planning on repairing the original valve that was damaged and another one that was damaged due to the heart attack. |
